She studied composition at Edinburgh Napier University where she found her love of composing for visual mediums.
Upon graduating, her final year project, which was in collaboration with a Multimedia Designer Mark McGrotty. This project was special as it was created by combining found sound with musical elements along with the use of audio reactive visuals to give the audience a new immersive experience. The Programme External Examiner who reviewed her work commented that it was one of the best projects he had ever seen from a final year undergraduate.
“The project exemplifies Jo’s abilities as a creative artist she collaborated closely with a multimedia designer on a series of clips that illustrated a narrative she had developed, based on her own academic concept. The final product, with its supporting research, was exemplary, and was nominated for the Faculty prize.”
This is something that she has taken with her and continues to work with elements of natural sound within her music to make each score unique.
She went on to further her knowledge and studied at the prestigious National Film & Television School in London.
Jo has continued to work on a variety of projects ranging from Short Films, Animation, Documentary, Dance, Commercials, Video Games, TV and the latest venturing into Virtual Reality. Specifically a VR Documentary which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and was shown at SXSW, Tribeca and Copenhagen Docs.
